Gas Pressure Washer Engine Shutting DownUpdated 6 hours ago

Gas pressure washer engine shutting down can be due to a number of reasons. Please go through the following chart to troubleshoot your pressure washer.

Problem

Probable Cause

Solution

Engine does not start

Stale fuel

Gas without stabilizer sitting in tank for more than 30 days degrades and does not ignite. Drain old fuel and replace it with fresh fuel.

Low oil shutdown

Your engine has a low-oil sensor. Check the dipstick, and top-up engine oil as required.

Spark plug – excessive carbon buildup or incorrect gap

Check & replace if necessary.

Engine dies when you pull the trigger

Incorrect nozzle size

Incorrect nozzle size can cause the engine to bog down. Please ensure that you are using the correct sized nozzles.

Clogged nozzles

Clean nozzles

Stuck unloader valve

Check & replace if necessary

Engine only runs with the choke on

Clogged carburetor

If the engine starts but dies when you turn off the choke, the "jets" inside are likely restricted. Clean and restart engine.

Engine starts, but dies after a few seconds

Low oil shutdown

Your engine has a low-oil sensor. Check the dipstick, and top-up engine oil as required.

Blocked fuel cap – engine starts, but dies after a few seconds

Most caps have a tiny vent to allow air in as fuel goes out. If it’s clogged, clean and restart the engine.

Dirty air filter – engine starts, but dies after some time

Check & replace if necessary

Dirty spark plug – carbon build up

Check and clean. Replace if necessary
